I’ve spent more time than usual working today. For the man. As you do sometimes. Sleep deprivation is getting to me and the Parker separation is excruciating. This is the third night in a row that I will have worked late, and next week promises more of the same. Sigh. To cheer myself up, however, I snuck out earlier (during a time most would consider to be something called a “lunch break” - I am unfamiliar with this concept). Went to my beloved Big Brain Comics and managed to snag a special limited edition of Coraline. I haven’t even had time to leaf through it yet but it allegedly contains 16 additional pages. Featuring a brief essay by Neil Gaiman, some of his notes for the book, and 4 unpublished concept sketches by Dave McKean. This edition was limited to 4000 copies. Cool. While I was there I was compelled to pick up Andi Watson’s Slow News Day, the collection. Instead of buying each of the six issues individually, I waited all this time to buy them complete, in one handy book. Hopefully it was worth it. Again, no time yet to page through it. I was trying to behave, really…but while in the store I couldn’t resist an intriguing book called “Hey, Wait…” by Norwegian cartoonist Jason. Looking forward to a little free time to enjoy these gems this weekend, but the days ahead of me promise to be action-packed. Starting with tomorrow. I’ll be hosting the 4th annual 4th of July BBQ at my house. Fireworks viewing available from the upstairs bedrooms. Admission free (to those who know the secret password anyhow). I also plan to take the little man to see the Powerpuff Girls movie. And to ride on the carousel. And there’s always cleaning and yard work that needs to be done. And a myriad of other items languishing on the old to do list. I often feel just like Sisyphus. But a good night’s sleep and some quality time with my son should improve my spirits. Heading home then. Right. Ta!
