I should mention the day wasn’t excellent for everyone. As my guests arrived they all spoke of some happening a couple of blocks over…with police blocking off the intersection and re-routing traffic the long way around. Now I am thankful for my friends’ collective tardiness. I’d set bbq-time at 5pm. Most arrived around 5:30. At 5:15pm there was a shooting. Three teenage boys (ages 14, 15, and 17) had been shot by an unknown assailant. One in the head (I hope he pulls through). This is very scary and sad. In my three years in this house, nothing like this has happened in the neighborhood. I can only hope it doesn’t happen again. I’m overprotective and stressed out enough as it is.
