The second installment of Animatrix shorts debuted this week. Last night J and I watched “Program“, written and directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri. We enjoyed it even more than the first ep, “The Second Renaissance: Part 1” (though we’re still looking forward to Part 2). It was riveting, and meshed well with the Matrix world. We’re excited to see all ten shorts, really, but only four will be available on the web. A DVD of the first nine episodes will be released on June 3rd, at a cost of $24.95. The soundtrack will feature music by Juno Reactor, Death in Vegas, DJ Shadow and more. The tenth and final installment will not be on the DVD…but will act as a prelude to the upcoming Matrix Reloaded sequel, being released this May. The ten-minute anime feature will be released by Square, the video game publisher that produced 2001’s computer-animated “Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.” The Wachowski brothers sure have been keeping busy.
