Well, I never thought I’d do that. Again. This is a day that will live in infamy. I went and got myself hitched today. J and I had a very small, casual non-ceremony today…over lunch at the Seward Cafe. We drove there separately, not due to any superstitions, but because there wouldn’t be enough room in one car for everyone. Naturally we were running a little behind schedule, so I ran out of the house with wet hair, and the humidity didn’t help it much. Luckily I wasn’t too nervous…just hungry and looking forward to some hash browns. Upon the food’s arrival the little man managed to smear ketchup all over his face and shirt. Good thing no one wore white. After the others had eaten we moved our little group over to the courtyard, next to the community garden. Just a few of us gathered, enough to satisfy the requirements of Ramsey County. One friend is an ordained reverend through the Universal Life Church. Another happens to be his fiancĂ©e. And my bestest girl joined us as my fairy-maiden of honor…over her lunch break, I might add. But when it came time to witness she was a little distracted…trying to keep the little man from running off. There wasn’t much to see, though. Just a little silliness, trying to figure out what to say. We were totally winging it. No vows, no poems, no rings. On the drive home I was thinking we should have done the entire thing in Klingon…or had the good reverend say the Impressive Clergyman’s bit from the Princess Bride. But it was silly enough as it was, I guess. Afterwards we trooped next door to the Seward Co-op, to partake of frozen treats…and linger in the central air. But soon enough it was time to take my fairy-maiden back to work. Before doing so, though, she graciously provided us with a postage stamp…and popped the paperwork into the mailbox for us. Still doesn’t feel real (it will probably feel more real in a couple of months, after we have the big reception deal-y with family and friends). And to up the surreality scale, J and I are about to sit down and watch “Grease” with the little man. We’ve been itching to see it ever since watching “The Guru” last week. Peachy keen, jellybean.
