Despite the early morning wake-up call the day is off to a fine start. Drank my coffee out on the deck, where it’s nice and cool…with a bonus breeze. I don’t want to get burned again…but according to the weatherman the heatwave has broken, for real this time. Temps and humidity are both supposed to drop and play dead. Here’s hoping. I really ought to quit whining about the weather. Just spent much of the morning compulsively reading some New Yorkers’ blackout accounts. Warning: highly addictive stuff, I swear. Speaking of addictive…my earlier elation is starting to wear off some and meander towards queasiness. Too much coffee + too little sleep + empty stomach = bad news. When will I ever learn? In other news, the next several days offer an abundance of quality live musical happenings. Tonight at the Triple Rock the intriguing Epoxies are opening for D4. What could be better than 80s-style sci-fi synth punk? But I’m torn.
1: I ditched the fam last night to go out to the BLB.
2: A friend is in town from San Fran for a few days, and she’s having a happy hour thingie at Fuji-Ya tonight.
3: Another enticing show is going on in the entry…Eleni Mandell, with Mike Gunther and his Restless Souls.
Decisions, decisions. Then tomorrow Signal to Trust, et al, will be playing at Eclipse Records. Seems to be the last show at the Grand Ave location…so I’m thinking Eclipse is moving, but I have no idea where to. Anyone in the know can drop me a line. Moving right along, apparently Weird Al Yankovic is still doing his schtick…and will be strutting his stuff at the State Fair on Sunday. But Monday will host the event I’m most looking forward to…the 1-2 punch of Deerhoof performing at Loring Park, followed by a screening of “Rocky“. I am so there…and may even attempt to take the little man along. A couple of years ago we somewhat successfully saw Le Tigre together there. And a couple of weeks before he was born I saw Low play the same movie and music series…so I guess that counts as together. Come to think of it, I managed to cram in a lot of shows during my pregnancy. Everything from hardcore punk to Harry Connick Jr. I guess that early exposure could explain a thing or two about how the little man is turning out. Heh.
