All right, I’ll fess up. Things aren’t all happiness and light around here. In fact, just last night one of my companions delivered a piece of news…that caused me to bust out rather loudly with “that motherfucker”. Doh. It wasn’t directed at anyone in the room…but still. If I’d had a bit more sleep I could’ve gotten that filter between my brain and my mouth to work. Maybe. It often seems to be on the fritz. Another topic of dinner conversation last night, it seems a lot of our single sisters have developed an understandable, yet futile habit…of crushing on great gay guys. It makes sense. From our collective experience, many of the single straight men out there definitely aren’t worth the hassle. And less disconcerting, but still sad…the girls are always on the go. Which can be really good for them. But one will be vacationing in Italy for 2 1/2 weeks, inducing high levels of jealousy in myself and others, and causing her to miss the little man’s birthday party. And another will be travelling for work and missing both the birthday party and my wedding reception. We’ll be thinking of you. And, lastly, even though I can write lengthy diatribes about nothing much (like this one) I have been unable to pen one single friendster testimonial. What’s wrong with me? Wait wait…don’t tell me.
Editorial note: Some day I’ll get back to writing more than effluvia and fluff. But that’s what summer is for. I did start writing something more serious…after listening to the CBC’s As it Happens on the drive home last night. But stopped when it started feeling pointless. I’d caught one feature story that fleshed out this headline: “Universal health care may cost Canadian taxpayers and[sic] arm and a leg. But a new study shows that Americans spend three times more per patient, just to administer their system.” The author of the study was interviewed, a doc who is a member of the admirable Physicians for a National Health Program. But it boils down to the usual…money-grubbing big business interests in the U.S. wanting to screw everyone over and blah blah blah. So predictable it’s boring. As with most of my sociopolitical leanings, this is an issue that won’t likely be resolved or realized in my lifetime. But at least I know I’m not the only one out there thinking about it.
