We’re Back On The Train Yeah

Being home most of the time these days, one would think I’d be taking better care of business. But I’m no Suzy Homemaker. Much of the summer the house was a mess, as it was too darned hot to clean…or to prepare elaborate meals. Most of our caloric intake came from grazing on simple snacks or hastily made five-minute meals. Too many tofu dogs, veggie burgers, frozen dahl and samosas, PB&Js, and falafels (made from a mix, out of a box - oh the shame) were consumed. Something’s gotta give. The last several days I spent a little more effort, forcing myself to make food from goods that had long-languished on our shelves (we haven’t left the house, save for the playground, since Saturday). Unfortunately most of these victuals have been met with little acclaim. There is still a vat of split pea soup taking up an entire shelf in the refrigerator. Above that J has just added a tub of lentil soup, as he stubbornly refuses to have anything to do with peas. The wild rice-pecan croquettes were partaken of, but with more resignation than relish. Only one effort was eaten in its entirety, but it was the least healthy of the lot. Essentially a batch of homemade crunch’n'munch. Mmmm…fat, sugar and salt. Instead of making more unneeded desserts we need to get a copy of “The New Farm Vegetarian Cookbook“, and start making real meals again. I’ll keep you posted.
