The stupendously stubborn J has once again denied me a game of Scrabble…even though he’s the one who gave me the set as a birthday gift. Hrmph. Instead we settled for one of the games bequeathed to me by my Dad, “Jumpin - Game of Pawns“, made by the 3M company in 1964 (inside the box are instructions for ordering replacement pieces for only 25 cents per…each piece happens to be made of solid metal). We played just two rounds…each winning once. I suppose we should have gone for best two out of three. But J seems more interested in researching board games than in playing them. Currently he’s favoring “Hamster Rolle” and “Loopin’ Louie“. Personally I’d be content to play 3M games all night. I’ve also got my Dad’s “Oh-Wah-Ree” set…but I have no idea where “Twixt” has gotten to. I remember many a rainy day spent playing any or all of them with my brother. Back then the boxes seemed more shabby chic and intriguing than beaten up and forlorn. Much has changed since those days.
