Out Of The Blue

The little man was confused…when I parked the car in some random neighborhood, grabbed his hand and hustled him to the street corner. Luckily there was a bench for him to sit on and I’d come prepared. I busted out the little picnic lunch I’d packed, which he happily tucked into. And we didn’t have much of a wait. Soon enough the big blue piece could be seen coming along. He looked at me askance as it came across the Marshall/Lake Street Bridge, like some lost parade float. I tried to explain as best as I could, but the yellow piece was right on its tail. It had been spotted, being buoyed along the West River Road…and was met with much cheering from St. Paul citizenry. By this point he too was swept up in the excitement. Enough so for him to put down his peanut butter crackers in order to clap and cheer along. By the time the final piece showed up on the scene, though, it was sort of sad. His teeny voice (loud as it can be) was the only one raised in a cry of “Go Red”.
