Harnessing Conversational Energy

I’m thinking about ditching my landline. My anti-telephonic tendencies are catching up to me. The phone hasn’t rung in well over a week (but it’s still working, I tested it). My cell has seen more recent activity. But not much. Even the little man’s teachers mostly contact me via email. Speaking of communication…I’ve had to take drastic measures to deal with the comment spam the blog has been getting hit with. I’ve added a dozen or so pharmaceuticals to the blacklist (my apologies if you really wanted to tell me about your propecia use) and all comments are moderated for the time being. But once I approve a legit comment, that commenter will be able to comment at will. Unless it’s about cialis, that is.

Bonus: Last night I watched the season finale of BSG. It’s only March! How can the season be over already?! Ugh! At least there will be some new episodes of Heroes next month. And on the most recent episode of The Dresden Files? Claudia Black, of Farscape, guest-starred. She’s been typecast, playing another badass, but I wouldn’t want her any other way.
Plus: Mizna’s Fourth Annual Arab Film Festival kicks off tonight, at The Heights Theater. Check out the schedule.
And: I’m guessing it was prompted by the new teevee show, but the recent This American Life site redesign is lovely.

You might want to check how 9-1-1 works in your area before you get rid of your landline. Landline is still the most reliable way to make an emergency call and with the little guy that might be important. Landline works when the power goes out; your cell might not. Cheers!

  2. That is such a good point - and the only reason I’ll hang on to the danged land line. Maybe I’ll have my services pared down though, so it’s cheaper. Hmmm.

That’s not a bad idea…you probably have the same services on your cell. Just start giving out your cell number as your routine number but keep the landline until you can be assured that emergency services can be duplicated…

I don’t have a landline. Which would be totally fine, because I don’t get many calls either (I hate phones, too), except for the fact that I am Totally Irresponsible, so on those days when I haven’t charged my cell phone I am totally up Shit’s Creek with a turd for a paddle.

When you come to Chicago can we have a discussion on how to make me more grown-up?
