Yesterday I was feeling pretty motivated and happy about getting things done, at work and at home. This would have been unmitigated awesomeness only it was marred by an unfortunate 80s earworm that lodged itself into my brain. Thanks a lot Matthew Wilder for this: “ain’t nothing gonna break my stride, nobody gonna slow me down, oh no, I’ve got to keep on moving.” I just couldn’t shake it (apparently it was also featured in an episode of Glee recently) which is why I’ve been inflicting it upon others. At least those Solid Gold dancers’ shiny costumes look suitable for Olympic figure skating and that’s topical, right?
Five good and/or odd things:
- I uploaded photos to my son’s flickr account. His shots from the zoo and from last Saturday’s photowalk. The kid has a good eye. Unfortunately he was using my old Olympus that has some serious limitations. Maybe I’ll let him shoot with one of my Rebels next time…
- Despite being a social media whore I’m not a user or fan of foursquare so I had to chuckle when I saw Please Rob Me. I do understand the paranoid sentiment behind it even if it’s been taken to extremes. Still, it’s not robbery if nobody is home - then it is burglary. Semantics, I know. And hey, at least we have a home security system.
- My son’s grandparents have been living on their boat in Belize. A couple of weeks ago they had one seriously strange experience on the high seas.
- Dag, I want one of these “Check Meowt!” t-shirts. And I didn’t realize there was a National Feral Cat Day. Neat.
- More awesome web comics! Sailor Twain or The Mermaid in the Hudson (via the great Kate Beaton) and the latest episode of Axe Cop is particularly satisfying. “Now I can stab people.”
Today’s photo is one I shot across the way from Clockwork the other day. The owners of ChinDian Cafe called to “warn” us that there would be firecrackers and a lion dance team in the vicinity. I was so excited I raced outside, camera in hand, but forgot my coat. Happy Year of the Tiger! Incidentally, Clockwork is hiring. Check it out yo.

Finally, someone who recognizes that some folks have gone overboard with the paranoia re: 4SQ. I’ve been rolling my eyes a lot more than usual lately. Foursquare does not announce where I live, nor does it inform anyone that if I’m away from home that must mean no one else is there. I also live in a secure apartment building, not a house, which probably eliminates a good chunk of paranoia other folks might have.
If only I needed a job Clockwork sounds like a nice place to work. Well it looks fun from your pictures at least.
I don’t do 4square… partly because I don’t ever leave my house. But also because being robbed is one of my irrational fears. I don’t need another reason to worry more than I already do.
