Maybe this bummer summer is finally starting to turn around. But it figures, just as the weather gets awesome the boyfriend and I get sick. I played the “allergies or a cold?” game for a few days but definitely landed on the latter. Last night I was coughing so hard I strained some muscles in my rib cage. And tomorrow I’ve got to photo assist at a wedding. I’m planning to load up my pockets with cough drops so I don’t hack my way through the ceremony. At least my son has a fun birthday party to attend, followed by some hangout time with his bio-dad. I feel like the poor kid has been bored all week, hanging out with me while I work from home. Thankful that summer camp starts on Monday. That will keep him happily occupied for the next six weeks.
Five random good things:
- I’ve been noticing the art of Stacey Rozich around for a little while now but recently I really delved into her work. And yep, I am so smitten with it I have deemed it tattoo-worthy. Now I need to decide which of her pieces will adorn my right forearm. There’s something about her paintings…the combination of bold color and the mystical elements and the masks, I love me some masks, and the humor. Her work just contains everything I like. So do I choose from her Narrative Folk Art or the urban magic of skateboarding pizza-eating cats or something with these little flying lizard dudes?
- The author of Coraline and The Graveyard Book shares the characters from myths that haunt him, from Loki and Lilith to Coyote: Neil Gaiman’s top 10 mythical characters
- Outdoor cats get to have adventures, but it also shortens their life spans (I’ve always had exclusively indoor cats). Still, this is neat. Secret life of the cat: What do our feline companions get up to?
- Ridiculously cute - a gibbons walks a suspension bridge like a tightrope. Makes me want to go to Monkeyland.
- A friend pointed this out today. Recorded before the Velvet Underground’s release, “Waiting for My Man” by The Riot squad featuring David Bowie.
Last weekend we hit up Northern Spark, as planned, but dang. We never got out of Union Depot! We stuck it out for about five hours but I was so overstimulated and perpetually distracted by shiny objects (or running into friends) that I feel like we missed out on a lot of things. Oh well. There’s always next year. Speaking of, if you go to their web site right now you can provide feedback via a survey.
