A Matter of Milestones or of Moments

It is March, again. This marks the one-year anniversary since the pandemic became real for many of us in the United States. There’s been a lot of chatter about hitting milestones. For example, the other day was the anniversary of the last live music show I saw in a venue. That week I also saw my last movie in a theater. And our last meal inside a restaurant was on Friday the 13th. This tweet is a relatable gut punch:

IT'S BEEN A YEAR. I HAVE ACCOMPLISHED SO MUCH. FOR EXAMPLE: I AM TIRED AND MY HAIRCUT IS BAD. WELCOME BACK TO MARCH. EVERYTHING IS RIGHT WHERE YOU LEFT IT

We do know a lot more about the virus after a year. And there are vaccines now. But they aren’t being rolled out quickly or efficiently enough. And too many Americans continue to engage in risky behaviors, like dining indoors. So for us, it will more of the same. Staying at home or social distancing outdoors, with masks. This is a sadly evergreen tweet:

YES MY CURRENT MENTAL STATE IS JUST ONE OF THOSE TIME LAPSE CLIPS OF A PLANT WILTING BUT I AM POSITIVE ANOTHER SAD LITTLE WALK AROUND MY NEIGHBORHOOD WILL SET EVERYTHING RIGHT

As I’ve done for a year, I’ll continue to get by with regular walks, cooking, podcasts, reading, and watching TV and movies. Here’s a random roundup of things that have been making me happy:

  • The buzz this week is all about the WandaVision finale, which I watched. But I’ve been excited about the return of another personal favorite.
Astronaut Drama For All Mankind Has a Stellar Second Season: This AppleTV+ production has gotten less attention than Ted Lasso or The Morning Show—but it’s well worth your time.”
  • Taskmaster series 11 will begin airing March 18th! And another round of the Champion of Champions is in the works, with winners from series 6 through 10. SO EXCITING
  • In local vegan-friendly food news, the delightful sibling duo behind Herbivorous Butcher is opening a vegan fried chicken shop in South Minneapolis, closer to where we live.
  • A plant-based burger chain is launching farther away, in the suburb of Wayzata. But we’ll check it out. Drive-thru style.
  • Every night at bedtime, I spend some time with my kindle before nodding off. Some books are more engaging than others though, so I stay awake too late reading. This is the latest one:
‘The Echo Wife’ Layers Sci-Fi And Murder Mystery For A Twisty Treat

One week from tomorrow will be March 14th aka Pi Day. Turns out I baked an apple-pear pie last year. But I’m ready to up my game. Perhaps a French silk pie? Or a vegan Banoffee pie. We’ll see.
